The dictionary definition of Liberal Arts Education is Liberal Education is an approach to learning that empowers individuals and prepares them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. It provides students with broad knowledge of the wider world (e.g. science, culture, and society) as well as in-depth study in a specific area of interest. Liberal Arts Education is here to inspire kids and prepare them for the new change that is sure to come, especially since it could be overwhelming to start in college. It also gives the upcoming students the opportunity to express their feelings and exploit new ideas that may benefit other students as well as the world.
It also gives students the chances to figure out what they want to experience and pursue. There are plenty of students who come into college not knowing what they want to do, let alone know who they are. They come to college to find themselves, meet themselves then know themselves, so Liberal arts education could help them to discover exactly that.
Liberal Arts Education also gives students a broader amount of skills to use for their careers. Say if someone already chooses what they wanted to take as a major, exposing them to new things that they never thought of. An example of that is how I already chose my major but I was exposed to studying abroad. Now I am interested in researching it more to see if it would be something that I would like to do.
Rebecca Chopp’s expressed the same feeling as I do about liberal arts education she said “Liberal arts are founded on a whole person, developing a person athletically and academically. Liberal arts are going international. The 21st century is one of entrepreneurship and innovation. There will not be fixed careers. The liberal art teaches you to think outside the box.” I agree with what she was trying to say. The reason I understand is because sometimes people have a problem with doing courses that don’t pertain to what their major is but I don’t. I see these courses as extra skills I could use to make myself better. These skills will eventually come in handy when the time comes. The future is the unexpected, so embrace liberal arts because it could make your life one with many possibilities.
