(week 5) Success is Right Behind That Door
Tyquan Chardon Professor Guarino/Blog B Inq: 101 9/28/13 Time was always a major factor when it came to school. It was always about managing your time wisely to get your work done and to study for an exam or test. Well I decided it was time to watch and see how I utilize my time properly, in order to see if I was on the right track with my first year in college. I realized that I wasn’t managing my time properly and that it needed to change. After all history is made from the person who put the most time and effort into their work not the person who just did one thing and tried to flourish off of it. The study we discussed in class taught me to manage my time through a system that will work with my daily day. It taught me to set times in the day where I could sit down and do my work and studies. It also taught me that as a student i must make sure I stay on track with all deadlines whether in classes or in extracurricular activities because in doing this it will help me to become accustomed with being responsible as a student as well as a man trying to make a living in the world. I admit that I am not a really good person when it comes to being organized but this study showed me how much time i spend with the things that are important and helped me to understand that I need to make a change. I spend at most 21 hours working on my homework. Now yes it is a good amount of time but honestly I need to assert myself and spend even more time because I know where my weaknesses come from. One of the problems I have with my time is with sleeping. I understand why at times it’s hard for me to focus on my work because I wasn’t replenished physically to focus right. Sleeping a total of 25 hours a week is unhealthy and messes with your sense of focus. The study showed me that I need more sleep so I can be more focused on the work that is important to accomplish. This way i can get my work done earlier instead of rushing to meet deadlines. As a freshman in college I know I will make mistakes. One of the things that I need to work on is procrastination. I say this because I know that after classes I feel I need to just take a break from doing anything, so instead of doing what I’m supposed to do I decide to relax. Then time gets away from me and by the time I realize it I find myself trying to rush to get what needed to be done finished. What I am going to do for now on is remind myself why I am here in order to practice intrinsic motivation in order to motivate myself into getting my work done. I now know what it takes to accomplish my goals in this school. I finally woke up and I am ready to do what must be done to succeed these four years

Mirror Never Lies
Tyquan Chardon
Professor Guarino/Blog A

9/28/13
The last four weeks I have been trying to formulate a way for me to progress better in this Inquiry class. Honestly it really has been hard for me. I am not entirely sure if it's because I do not understand what is being asked in the material or if it's simply because I have not had enough sleep. Either way I had to look in a mirror and ask myself how badly I wanted to succeed. I wanted it really bad and I still do. So I had to make a change in me, but before I can do that I must acknowledge my mistakes.
I have realized that I am terrible at creating blogs. My first thought of it was that this was going to be easy. All I had to do is write about my feelings about a topic. How hard can that be? Well it's completely different. This time I'm not just expressing my feelings. This time I am also tapping into the feelings of my viewers. There was no more easing my way through writing. I have been given a challenge and I accept it. Coming into this I was blinded to the fact that blogging had an order to how you present it, so without thinking I typed up things I felt about the topic without maintaining that order. This made me disappointments in myself. I am disappointed in how I have been so far in my work since the beginning of this class. I’m disappointed in the grades I have been receiving and many more. I know I have been on a rocky start but that’s not going to stop me. I will continue to fight and work hard until I get the grades I know I can get.
I have been trying many methods but the main thing I have been doing is asking for help. Instead of trying to tackle this alone, I decided to reach out to the people who are willing to help me. The most important person I asked to help me was my professor because she knows what she is looking for in these assignments and can give me the most support and help needed to complete it correctly. Another method I am going to start using is printing the topic instructions so that I can check off the questions that I have already answered. Then finally I will bring my blog to someone in my class or my teacher to proofread for me before I send it in. I know for a fact that this will help me with the mistakes I have made. I also know that there are many methods into helping me.
I have many long term goals for myself. Goals that will mold how I live in the future but right now I am only thinking of what I can do to succeed here. I now understand that if I want to get to my long term goals I have to take it a step at a time, and focus on passing my classes and graduating. I feel I will make it to my goal because now I know what I must do. Make sure that I am organized, complete work right away and utilize the resources given to me to help me succeed. Just like in the article that talked about the straight A method. It said "Capture, control, plan, and evolve the way I balance my work with my social life. Therefore I must capture a set organized plan to balance myself in my work in order to control when I get things done instead of racing to meet deadline, plan when to study and do home work, and evolve completely. If I follow this I know that it will ensure success for me. I know that asking for help and asserting myself will assure success for me. I want to succeed, and I will do whatever it takes to do so.

The Depths Of Our Will Power
Blog B 9/22/13
A couple of questions I had about the topic of the marshmellow project was, just because the result of a testing how can this insure their success when they come out into society? and lastly just because to kids were able to restrain from eating marshmellow does that give them the same level of success? These questions played in my mind because these are the things that need to be thought about in this generation?, To me just because two kids were given the same test and succeeded the same way doesnt mean they will show signs of the same success. Kid A couldve recieved the lesson completely different from Kid B which can change the outcome of experiment completely.
Lets say that the two kids who succeeded the testing went back to living their lives. Kid A learned that taking your time and waiting for something you want can possibly give you a better result in what you originally asked for but in place of that doesnt take the anituative to go get the things that are important, while kid B may be less impatient but still knows how to go get what he wants which the aggressive attitude can show great promises. Both the kids showed that in a testing they can perform well but in showing success out of a test their true way of living can either greatly harm them or better their lives. In this topic it all depends on the approach taken. Kid B knew that the calm and suttle approach will help him get the right result but knew how he truly handles a situation outside. Depending on how he uses his true approach he can do many great things and succeed greatly but if he was to use it the wrong way he can ruin what he worked so hard to build.
Kid A may have been suttle all along which helped him in this short term goal but in a long term situation he can be to suttle and lose the motivation to work hard. Thus kid A may also get frustrated because he doesnt know how to take the aggressive approach in a situation that may be needed.
That being said I do believe that "the power to resist temptation, to pass up desert, to endure an unpleasant experience, to defer satisfaction is in fact our greatest human strength" This quote was used in an article called (Resisting Training For Your Wil Power Muscles). John Tierney stated that our power to resist is just a form of mental energy. Its the same as saying that using skills you learned in a positive way for yourself as well as the world is all up to the person. Thats what i have been trying to tell you and ask your opinions about. I hope to know what you think and if you agree.

Wheres the Success In Waiting
Blog A 9/21/13
In my life I feel there was a need to wait for certain things. On the other hand though I also felt that I also needed a certain thing right away. In my opinion the things we choose to wait for are mostly very important to us. The one major question that is asked is How bad do we want it?, and can we wait to receive it? To me the things we feel we need right away are materialistic things like, video games, and toys. These are in fact the things that satisfy our interest(entertainment). These are also the things that mold the way we act depending upon what it is we want.
There was in fact a time where I had to practice delayed gratification. The time where I had to practice this skill is right now. I have been given the chose to either wait for my girlfriend and fight for our relationship, or move on and find someone else to be with. My girlfriend means the world to me so of coarse I will wait for her and show delayed gratification, mainly because she is very important to me. I believe that we as people will take that extra step and go the length for the things that are precious to us, but honestly there are many times where society has proven that delayed gratification is starting to become non-existent. The main reason for that is because technology has taken a hold of the minds and habits of all the young children and has then shaped how we live in our world. I have been asked many times if I believe that our society values delayed gratification or if we value instant gratification more. Before I answer that question I want to touch the topic first.
Think of instant and delayed gratification in ways of success. Imagine two students who was given the same assignment. Student A chose to go to the library and begin his research from a book while student B chose to go on Google to find his information. When they both presented their assignments they both received the same grade, but does that mean that they both obtained the same level of success. The level of success they gained together was on the assignment only but their views of what they learned was entirely different when practiced out in society. Because student A choose to show delayed gratification and took the time to research his work through searching for books, he was able to broaden his intelligence in many ways. He broadened his vocabulary, his understanding of the world, and Global concepts, while student B , who really didn't show delayed gratification and went straight to Google to gain information was limited in the amount of information he obtained.
So yes I do believe that as a group of individuals do value instant gratification more because technology has given us the ability to make our lives easier. We should learn to do more things without technology so we as people can connect with one another as well as with the world. That way we can expand our mindsets and concepts that are more beneficial to everyone, rather then just gratifying ourselves.

The light of the dissability
I often find myself trapped into a state where i am enjoying a set thing and in enjoying it i completely put myself into it. One activity that i was enjoying was known as special olympics. My job is to interact with students with disabilities and play sports with them like soccer, basketball, or track. I find so much joy in this job and would gladly be there when asked to be there. The smiles on these kids faces created peace in me and made me happy. The strength these young kids have is so admorable. They know they are different from other kids in many ways but they never let it drag them down. I have so much respect and joy with them and i feel so excited when i leave to go play a sport with them. Sometimes it gets hard, mainly because of three reasons.
1.) the first reason it can get hard is because there are times where they lose hope and get upset. The trick to work through that is by encouraging them. letting them know that they are doing great and never give up. this will build their confidence, allowing smiles to resurface again.
2.) The second reason why it is hard at times is because when your playing a sport with them you have to remember who you are playing with and can't play to rough. I remember i was playing with them at soccer. now thats my sport so i started getting into it. I smashed the ball hard. It flew right into one of the kids fourhead. I felt so bad but the kid ate the blow and kept playing. so it was hard to play because now im worrying about hurting any of them. The trick to work through that is by letting them play more, so i have to pass them the ball more and aviod trying to score.
3.) The third reason it can get hard is because there are times where they cant focus. When that happens they ignor what is being done and create hug amounts of noise. The way to work through this is by talking to them lightly and telling them to calm down and pay attention. There are times where you have to raise your voice alittle but not too much.
These kids are just like every other human being. They understand whats being said to them and have hearts that feel emotions as well. Many people treat kids with dissabilities like they are dismissive, but they are not. they are human just like you and me. They have feelings and its wrong to treat them like they cant do anything. I vouch for the dissability and i will continue to be by their sides. God blessed the world with these kids and i am so glad to help them live a life where they could just be themselves. I enjoy what i do and i will continue to persue it

The Day is Seized and Now I Can Reach My Dreams
Tyquan Chardon

Seize the Day by "Shakespeare".
This quote is more connected to intrinsic motivation because mentally and spiritually you have to feel within yourself that you are ready for the days to come. Without that feeling you may feel like it is pointless to even try and might decide to give up. On another note if you can't get yourself to feel ready and motivate yourself in order to truly feel like its worth the try, you may have a person in your life who fights with you. Encouraging you to strive to get better, to keep fighting, and never give up. Thats where the extrinsic motivation comes from. Sometimes you need that extra push to help you get started with your days.
I remember the other day i was apart of a foot ball team and we had our first game. Our courter back was a great player but he seemed different this time. It was our first game and he was making bad plays and being pressured to make the wrong decisions. The whole team gathered and tried to talk to him. He said that he was nervous. We as a team cheered him on and encouraged him to fight. Our motivation gave him motivation as well as a fight spirit and he started to believe that he could do this. He needed that extra boost to help him feel stronger inside. He needed extrinsic motivation because he couldn't motivate himself to believe and know he was a good player and that he could do it.
In pertaining to fixed mindset Seize The Day could mean that in life there may be a set thing you are reaching for. The only way you can reach that point in life is by making the best of the day you are in as well as the days to come. You constantly feel like the only way to make the best of those days is by being perfect. It feels almost like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. There is too much pressure on how you make it to your goal, that you are almost afraid to mess up or make a mistake. This quote doesn't want you to feel that way so it describes the mindset of Growth mindset.
Growth mindset is the ability to open your mind to the possibilities. Every experience and struggle helps you grow stronger in the things you need to do in your life to help you get to what you want in life. It helps you think of new ways to get to your goal. Seize the day is the very meaning of don't give up and keep trying, thats where growth mindset plays its part because you begin to understand that the only way to succeed in this world is to try your very hardest. If at first you don't succeed, you try again and soon you will learn from your mistakes, and correct them so that you may move forward.

Motivations curse becoming blessing. we as people believe that feeling good can create a sense of confidence in us to motivate us to be the best that we can be. The only problem though is that sometimes these praises that is used to motivate us can make us get carried away with ourselves.Their are such differences in how we praise a person that we dont quit understand yet so we never notice how we influence a person. There are times where we believe that the appearance of being educated is all you need to succeed in everything you do while others believe that success in education comes with hard work and determination. The thing is those two claims coenside with each other, they come hand in hand. For example. When you try to get a job you go through the interviewing process before you are handed the job. The things an employer is looking for is what you can bring to their bussiness. So at first sight they would check to see if you are dressed to part because first appearances means alot. then they ask you about your life, what experiences you had with a similar job, and what form of education you have. Yes the appearance of a working man or woman is important but also the managers confidence in how hard you work counts just as much. If i am willing to give you praise for what youve done and continue to do i should praise you on how much yo improved in your accomplishment. Everything we do in life doesnt eserve praise, sometimes we just need the truth. Praise me for how hard i worked not how long and my knowledge of the work but the effort i put into the work. Those are the feelings that are more worth wild and last far greater then a lifetime.
