The Depths Of Our Will Power
Blog B 9/22/13
A couple of questions I had about the topic of the marshmellow project was, just because the result of a testing how can this insure their success when they come out into society? and lastly just because to kids were able to restrain from eating marshmellow does that give them the same level of success? These questions played in my mind because these are the things that need to be thought about in this generation?, To me just because two kids were given the same test and succeeded the same way doesnt mean they will show signs of the same success. Kid A couldve recieved the lesson completely different from Kid B which can change the outcome of experiment completely.
Lets say that the two kids who succeeded the testing went back to living their lives. Kid A learned that taking your time and waiting for something you want can possibly give you a better result in what you originally asked for but in place of that doesnt take the anituative to go get the things that are important, while kid B may be less impatient but still knows how to go get what he wants which the aggressive attitude can show great promises. Both the kids showed that in a testing they can perform well but in showing success out of a test their true way of living can either greatly harm them or better their lives. In this topic it all depends on the approach taken. Kid B knew that the calm and suttle approach will help him get the right result but knew how he truly handles a situation outside. Depending on how he uses his true approach he can do many great things and succeed greatly but if he was to use it the wrong way he can ruin what he worked so hard to build.
Kid A may have been suttle all along which helped him in this short term goal but in a long term situation he can be to suttle and lose the motivation to work hard. Thus kid A may also get frustrated because he doesnt know how to take the aggressive approach in a situation that may be needed.
That being said I do believe that "the power to resist temptation, to pass up desert, to endure an unpleasant experience, to defer satisfaction is in fact our greatest human strength" This quote was used in an article called (Resisting Training For Your Wil Power Muscles). John Tierney stated that our power to resist is just a form of mental energy. Its the same as saying that using skills you learned in a positive way for yourself as well as the world is all up to the person. Thats what i have been trying to tell you and ask your opinions about. I hope to know what you think and if you agree.
